Hints of friendship

Although the day is slowly entering the afternoon, the students in 4A was still energetic and the class was still fulled of raucous laughter. Exam is over and the burden we bear is put to rest for the moment. At the corner of the class where the tables were a mess and chairs surrounding a small stool , a group of students were playing “UNO” . Their intense laughters were clear and sharp. Jubilance filled the class. But eventhough cheerfulness paint their faces , there was no doubt they were just masking themselves to cover up a disappointment, a sadness.

Maurice , one of the UNO players, was thinking, or pretending to be thinking. This morning, the monitor received a note from the form teacher, stating that Maurice was one of the five students in our class to be dropped to B class next year. People were reluctant to tell the five . If you don’t tell them, the teacher would, making these five being embaraased. If you tell them, you will have to endure seeing a face that can promise you a sleepless night. But rumours in St. Joseph’s School spread as fast as CNN’s news. Eventually, they knew.

Surprising to some, they seem calm. But their calmness was a common handling of emotions among men. There was tension, anger and sadness inevitably. ” Three days ” they thought. Three days is the time they have left for these five friends who have been with them for so long. These five might be just a stone throw away from our class, but things will change, and they know it. Edwin, who just placed his card down on the stool , will miss Maurice, and so will Daniel . They have been spending quite a lot of time with him, making the time everlasting for Maurice. But is i everlasting? Reality is so cruel .By next year, Maurice will swap with a student from 4B and will no longer be that close to his friends again

” Ha! I win” Maurice exclaimed. Edwin gave a faint smile . Jude , who is carrying a small old battered box entered the class , seemed excited . ” I found a puppy!” He told his friends. We all surrounded the box and it was then the centre of attraction. Jude put down the puppy . We all wanted to see it walk. And it did, it kept walking in its own way, it didn’t look left or right.

And life kept going , going in its own way.

If you find this post offensive . I apologize.
